When an iconic fashion label like Dolce & Gabbana celebrates motherhood, they do it in a big way. And we love them for it! This past Sunday Dolce & Gabbana’s runway show at Milan Fashion Week, “Viva la mamma!”,  was entirely dedicated to celebrating motherhood.

Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said the show was an homage to their own mothers. The runway collection was oh so feminine with lots of floral detail, lace, silk, full skirts and tiny waists. Some of the garments had the words “Mamma”, “I love you, mamma” or “Per la mamma più bella del mondo” (for the most beautiful mother in the world) printed or embroidered on them.

Then there were also the sweet children’s drawings (think Angelina Jolie’s wedding veil) that adorned the garments. Some of the embroidered doodles were made by the designer’s own nieces and nephews.

About eleven model mothers walked the runway with their own little ones; who also wore designs from the label including matching dresses and suits. Pregnant model and Dolce & Gabbana ambassador Bianca Balti also walked in the show, showing off her six-month baby bump in a blush-coloured dress.

I'm a lover of the whimsical, the fantastical and all things darling. I believe words carry with them an immense power to shape the imaginary into something tangible and real. In a life reimagined I would probably live life as a talking fox in a woodland fairytale. Either that or I'd be able to crochet llama-hats for little'uns while running my children's bookshop fashioned to Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. After all, if we don't grow up too much, we'll still believe in faith, hope, love, trust and a pinch of pixie dust...
